To me, February 14th has always been just another day. I don’t like the commercialism that this day has always been. It’s a way to spend your hard earned money to prove your love for your significant other and line the pockets of others that sell such gifts that you would typically give, like greeting cards, candy, flowers, jewelry, beauty products, etc.
In the past, I didn’t prescribe to that. If you truly love someone, they know. If they truly love you, you know, and you tell each other in your own way all the time. Just being together and enjoying each other’s company is a constant reminder.
With that being said I will admit that this year I both received and gave a gift to someone special. I know that she knows how I feel. I know how she feels. I can’t explain why this year was different. Maybe it’s because this relationship is different from those I’ve had in the past. It seems like something we should celebrate.
To all of you out there celebrating in your own way, I wish you nothing but the best. I hope you and yours are making the most of what this life has to offer and that you are doing it together.
This is a time to remember why and how you found each other in the first place and conjure up those feelings that you know so well. Push through and get to the good stuff. Move in a positive direction whether it be towards or alongside each other.
