I may not agree…

I may not agree with my family, friends and coworkers about everything. How can I? I am my own person and entitled to my own opinions. Doesn’t mean i’m right. Doesn’t mean they are. We are all fallible. Human, and that’s okay. That’s what makes us who we are.

I will not unfollow or unfriend a person in social media just because their views differ from mine. I respect freedom of speech. I hope that others think similarly. Just because we can’t agree on an issue, a candidate or even a place to have lunch doesn’t mean we can’t continue to be friends or family.

I may absolutely despise someone’s views, but I respect their right to have them. I can only hope to place my views in front of them without being shut down. A difference of opinion is what makes the world go ’round.

If you are part of the growing numbers of people that are distancing themselves from those with differing opinions, I urge you to set that habit aside and take it all in. What are you giving up? WHO are you giving it up for? Is it worth severing a relationship for a particular issue, candidate or person?

I know some of you reading this may think it’s directed at you. It’s not. I just hear about it happening more and more and I think it’s sad.

I take breaks from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram on occassion just so I can get away from some of that, but I don’t unfollow or unfriend. I truly love many of these people. They’ve had a positive impact on my life in some way and I don’t want to lose them.

It all comes down to love, doesn’t it? Set aside judgement and just love, no matter what.

Just love.
